Rome, 19 February 2025 – Iberdrola, Europe’s leading utility by market capitalization, and Ispadue S.p.A., part of the Trasteel Group, active in the steel sector through trading and processing activities, have signed a renewable energy supply agreement to promote industrial self-consumption at the Sesto al Reghena (PN) plant, through the construction of a photovoltaic system with a capacity of 2.5 MWp.
The signed agreement provides Ispadue S.p.A. with the possibility to expand the project with an additional capacity of 1.7 MWp, bringing the total capacity to 4.2 MWp.
Thanks to the signing of this multi-year contract, with a duration of 15 years, Ispadue S.p.A. will be able to reduce energy consumption drawn from the grid by 18%.
The plant will have an annual electricity production of 3.2 GWh and will allow the avoidance of approximately 1,700 tonnes of CO₂ emissions per year, with an impact equivalent to the absorption of around 85,000 trees.
“We are proud to contribute to the energy transition path of Ispadue S.p.A., a cutting-edge company in the production of steel strips, tubes and profiles. This agreement represents a fundamental milestone for Iberdrola Italia and demonstrates our concrete commitment to providing sustainable, innovative and low-investment energy solutions for our clients,” said Lorenzo Costantini, Commercial Director of Iberdrola Italia. “This agreement demonstrates our ability to develop tailor-made projects capable of meeting the needs of Italian companies, strengthening our role as a reliable partner for decarbonization and the country’s energy autonomy,” he concluded.
“We are extremely satisfied to embark on this energy transition path with the support of Iberdrola Italia. The installation of the photovoltaic plant represents a significant step for Ispadue S.p.A. towards sustainability and the decarbonization of our processing activities, confirming our commitment to adopting innovative and low environmental impact energy solutions,” said Benedetto Gandin, General Manager of Ispadue.
He concluded by highlighting the importance of making a tangible contribution to a greener future for the steel processing sector: “This project not only allows us to reduce our emissions, but also enables us to concretely contribute to the growth of a greener industry, strengthening our role as a responsible and forward-looking company in the production of steel strips, tubes and profiles.”
Iberdrola, a partner for the future energy of Italian industries
Among Iberdrola’s industrial self-consumption solutions are on-site PPA agreements, i.e. renewable energy supply contracts through which companies can self-produce sustainable energy within their own premises.
This solution is aimed at industrial clients that, having available space (on rooftops or land), decide to make it available for the construction of a renewable energy plant (in the case of Ispadue S.p.A., a photovoltaic system) without having to make the investment, and with the guarantee of a “tailor-made” project.
During the contractual period, Iberdrola guarantees the client access to a stable green energy price for the entire duration of the multi-year agreement, as well as covering all costs related to the design, construction, commissioning and maintenance phases of the plant, allowing the client to focus its financial resources on its core business.
The advantages for companies entering into this type of agreement are therefore numerous, including the positive environmental impact related to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and the increase in energy independence.
