Derivatives Engineering

Derivatives trading is carried out through Trasteel Future SA, the Group’s dedicated digital trading company.
Its first purpose is to serve the Group from the inside: hedging the price risk carried by our physical trading desks and by our industrial companies alike, from the energy and raw materials that feed the plants to the steel they produce and sell.
Alongside this, the company takes proprietary positions on contained-risk strategies — arbitrage and spreads rather than outright directional exposure — consistent with the conservative risk culture that has carried the Group through successive market cycles, and overseen by a dedicated internal risk management function.

Trading is conducted on the exchanges that set global commodity prices, including LME, CME, ICE, EEX and SGX, across six product segments:

  • Energy — power and gas
  • Non-Ferrous — aluminium, zinc, tin, copper, lead
  • Steel — hot-rolled coil, European, US and Chinese benchmarks
  • Metallics — scrap, busheling, rebar, iron ore
  • Coal — steam coal
  • Carbon Credits — EU Allowances (EUAs)
